Police arrest suspect after an armed robbery Tuesday morning at a Farmington Car Wash.

From Farmington Police: Today, at approximately 10:50 a.m. Farmington police were dispatched to the Power Wash car wash located at 2348 E. 20th St in reference to an armed robbery. Police learned that a man entered the office, brandished a handgun and took the wallet and vehicle of a 96-year-old man. The suspect left the area and headed in an unknown direction. At approximately 11:05 a.m. an FPD corporal located the suspect at Bisti Highway and Murray Drive. The corporal followed the suspect but did not activate his emergency equipment. New Mexico State Police responded to the area to assist FPD. When they caught up with the suspect, he increased his speed. At this time, a pursuit was initiated because the suspect had committed an armed robbery with a gun and remained a danger to the community. The pursuit continued east on 7100 to 7100 and 7130 where the suspect stopped the vehicle. He was taken into custody without further incident.

 

The suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Lorenzo Martinez of Farmington. State Police transported him to the San Juan County Detention Center where he will be booked on charges of armed robbery, aggravated fleeing, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and an outstanding felony warrant.

    Crews arrived to find a structure on fire and the occupant inside.  Despite a quick response from fire crews and efforts by San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies, one occupant was removed from the structure by firefighters and transported to the hospital by San Juan Regional Medical Center EMS. The occupant was pronounced dead at the hospital.
