At approximately 4:18 am, officers were dispatched to the area of Wellington St., Farmington, NM, in reference to subjects burglarizing vehicles in the area.  The reporting party was able to obtain descriptions of the suspects as they watched them get into a white, Ford F150 and start to leave the area.  An officer located the vehicle as it was leaving the area, at which time he made the decision to wait for more patrol units before making contact.  Once others arrived, a felony stop was conducted and three suspects were detained.

After securing the occupants, a short barrel shotgun was found in the front seat floor board and a .45 caliber handgun was located on the side of the driver seat near the center console.  After concluding their investigation and conferring with the District Attorney’s office, Officer’s arrested Robert Walker, 23 of Aztec, Martin Marez, 29 of Farmington, and Jacob Martinez, 21 of Farmington, for auto burglary, conspiracy to commit auto burglary and firearms offenses.

As a reminder to the public, the people committing these types of crimes are often armed and will do almost anything to avoid capture. This incident is a good example of a citizen doing the right thing by gathering information and providing that to dispatchers so responding officers could apprehend the suspects.
