The Bloomfield Irrigation District (BID) Ditch, which supplies water to the City Reservoir, breached overnight. Raw water has been cut off to the City Reservoir. City and BID personnel are assessing the damage and developing a game plan for restoring the ditch. Until water is restored, the City must begin Water Restrictions immediately to preserve our remaining water supply. Citizens should refrain from any outdoor use of city water, and conserve as much as possible. Businesses are asked to conserve where they can, but should stay open.
Once the ditch is restored and back in service, a press release will be issued, and water restrictions lifted.

New Mexico State University Extension office will be coordinating emergency water deliveries for livestock owners that do not have access to the San Juan River to provide water for livestock.
“There are no resources to pay for this service, so it must be an emergent need” advised Bonnie Hopkins-Byers, NMSU Agriculture Extension Agent. Those who wish to officer assistance on a volunteer basis can also contact the NMSU Extension office.
Livestock owners in need of a water delivery can contact the San Juan County Extension office at 505-334-9496 to be added to the list. Producers must have access for large trucks and a storage method or place for the delivery. Requests taken from messages will be added to the list for that morning. Requests after 8:00am will be put on the next day’s delivery schedule. Deliveries will begin May 18th.
Please have the following information available when you call or leave a message:
• Number of head of livestock
• Estimated water need
• Physical address
• Name and phone number
These deliveries are for those without access to alternative water sources for livestock. Please conserve city water for potable use only. Use alternative water source such as well water for non-potable needs.
