Mike Stark currently serves as County Operations Officer and has for the last eight years under CEO Kim Carpenter. Carpenter has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2018.

Tuesday at the San Juan County Commission meeting, San Juan County Commissioners voted to hire Mike Stark as County Executive Officer.
Mike Stark currently serves as County Operations Officer and has for the last eight years under CEO Kim Carpenter. Carpenter has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2018.
Stark has worked for San Juan County for 12 years, under three CEOs. Prior to San Juan County, Stark worked in the private sector and, with his wife, owned a retail/wholesale business for 10 years.
“I look forward to serving the Commission and citizens of San Juan County in this new role,“ said Stark. “I’m really excited about continuing to work with the great team of elected officials, department heads, and all employees who work every day to achieve our mission statement of ‘Building a Stronger Community.’”
Arizona Public Service (APS) has announced it's decision to extend the operation of the Four Corners Power Plant (FCPP) beyond 2031. Navajo Transitional Energy Company's Navajo Mine provides the necessary coal for the operation of the plant and is positioned to meet the needs of FCPP well into the future.

Deputies made multiple commands to stop and drop the knife, however, the suspect ignored the commands and continued moving towards the deputies with the knife. A deputy discharged his sidearm, striking the suspect.
Immediate life-saving aid was rendered to the suspect, but he ultimately died at the scene. The Farmington Police Department is leading the investigation.

In February, San Juan County Commissioners voted to seek judicial review of the New Mexico Racing Commission’s decision to authorize Western Gaming to move its racing license to Clovis, NM. The Racing Commission’s decision, at the request of Western Gaming, would have ended San Juan County’s long heritage of horse racing at a county-owned facility.
