CCSD Superintendent Resigns

In the same meeting, the Board of Education voted 4-1 to name Eva B. Stokely principal Terri Benn acting superintendent. Only secretary Christina Aspaas voted against the decision. Benn has been the principal at Eva B. Stokely for five years. She has worked for CCSD for 14 years as an educational assistant, a Pre-K teacher and an administrator at Newcomb High School before serving as principal at Eva B. Stokely.

From the Central Consolidated School District:

Dr. Colleen W. Bowman has resigned as superintendent of Central Consolidated School District effective June 30th, 2018 and will be on paid leave through that time. The Board of Education accepted Dr. Bowman’s resignation by a 4-1 vote with only Secretary Aspaas voting against. The vote took place at a special board meeting held on April 27 in Shiprock.
“The Board wishes Dr. Bowman the best in her future endeavors,” Adam Begaye said.
Dr. Bowman was named interim superintendent in August 2015, before she assumed the role of superintendent in 2016 after board approval. She had been an employee of CCSD since 2009, serving many different positions, and also worked for CCSD in the late 1970s.
“It was an honor to serve the students of this district,” Dr. Bowman said.

“CCSD will continue to serve our students proudly and to the best of our abilities,” Benn said. “I want to reassure parents that the CCSD family will continue to serve our students without interruption and settle for nothing less than exemplary student success and achievement.”
Benn emphasized performance, student’s needs and safety as a few high priorities going forward.

Upon arrival, officers observed a male and female walking who matched the provided descriptions. Officers gave commands for Leon Quintana (27) to place his hands on his head and walk backward toward them. During the encounter, Mr. Quintana hesitated and shifted his movements while officers continued giving commands. He then produced a firearm and fired a shot toward officers, striking an officer’s patrol car. A second shot was also fired.

A complex investigation began, tracking Ms. Salazar across multiple states with cooperation from several law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshal’s Service, that concluded last week when Ms. Salazar was arrested on her warrant and the child was returned to New Mexico where he is now with Mr. West.

Navajo Nation agrees (again) to help fund N-36/NM 371 Intersection Improvements

The agreement authorizes NDOT to transfer $2,790,647 to NMDOT to administer procurement and construction of the NM371/N36 Intersection Improvement Project.
