County Fire Chief to Retire

In retirement, Daugherty will be spending more time with his family and continuing to train the next generation of firefighters. There will be an announcement regarding Chief Daugherty’s replacement forthcoming.

After 30 years in the fire service, 11 of which serving the San Juan County Fire Department, Chief Craig Daugherty has announced his retirement, effective December 28, 2019.
“This is one of the most rewarding professions,” said Chief Daugherty, “My time here at San Juan County has been the pinnacle of my career.”
Chief Daugherty started at the San Juan County Fire Department in 2008 as Wildland Division Chief, promoted to Deputy Fire Chief in 2010 then Chief in 2015. Daugherty is also active in national deployments as part of an Interagency Type I Incident Management Team.
“In my travels around the country, I see a lot of different fire organizations. The folks here in San Juan County are blessed to have an amazing service provided by extraordinary people. I’m truly humbled when I see the dedication our local volunteer firefighters provide to this county. It has been an honor to serve alongside them,” said Chief Daugherty.
In retirement, Daugherty will be spending more time with his family and continuing to train the next generation of firefighters.

Suspect Arrested after Sexual Assault

During the investigation, officers learned that a male and female who knew each other had been in the area of the disc golf course. Neither individual was a student or staff member of San Juan College. The female victim reported that an altercation occurred between her and the male, Tyson Saggboy. She reported that Saggboy battered her, removed her clothing, and strangled her before fleeing the scene.
