Driver Charged after Fatal Crash

The initial investigation indicated a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Shaydell Pete-Light (21) of Farmington, NM was traveling north on State Road 371 when for unknown reasons drove off the roadway causing the vehicle to roll. The passenger Jasmine Lynn Curley (19) of Kayenta, AZ who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected and sustained fatal injuries.

From NM State Police:

On November 19, 2018 at about 5:05 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal rollover crash on State Road 371 around mile post 104, south of Farmington.

Alcohol does appear to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Seatbelts do not appear to have been used properly. Pete-Light was arrested and booked into the San Juan Detention Center. No other additional information is currently available.

Shaydell Pete-Light was charged with the following:

Homicide by Vehicle; Great Bodily Harm by Vehicle
Aggravated Driving While Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor or Drugs resulting in Great Bodily Injury or Death.
Possession of Marijuana
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Careless Driving
Speeding
No Seatbelt
Driver to be licensed
No Insurance
Vehicle to be Registered
