Suspect Beau Wilson was found to have been wearing a bulletproof vest at the onset of the event, providing him with additional protection. However, prior to his encounter with Farmington Police officers, he deliberately removed the vest. There was also a note found on Beau’s body.

Following the tragic active shooter incident that occurred in Farmington, NM on May 15, 2023, new details have emerged shedding light on the situation. Authorities have uncovered crucial information that provides further insight into the events that unfolded during this harrowing
incident. During the investigation, it was discovered that suspect Beau Wilson had amassed a substantial amount of ammunition within his residence. Law enforcement officials found approximately 1,400 rounds of ammunition stored within the suspect's home. In addition, authorities identified ten other firearms of varying calibers scattered throughout the residence. These weapons, accessible to Beau, did not
belong to him.

Beau was found to have been wearing a bulletproof vest at the onset of the event, providing him with additional protection. However, prior to his encounter with our officers, he deliberately removed the vest. Furthermore, a loaded 9mm and .22 caliber pistol were discovered in the vicinity. The AR-15 rifle had rounds already loaded in the chamber, with an accompanying magazine containing additional rounds. In a significant development, investigators learned that the suspect had purchased three additional magazines just two days prior to the incident.

There was also a note found on Beau’s body. The Farmington Police Department, in cooperation with local and federal law enforcement agencies,
is actively investigating this incident to ascertain all relevant details and motives behind the tragedy.

Our priority remains supporting the affected officers, their families, and the community during this challenging time. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by this horrific incident. The suspect escaped during Sunday afternoon church services. He asked to go to the bathroom and never returned, immediately initiating a count and search of the facility. This is the first escape in the 31-year history of the jail-based treatment center.
