The EFO Program provides senior fire officers with a broad perspective on various facets of fire and Emergency Medical Services administration. The courses and accompanying research examine how to exercise leadership when dealing with difficult or unique problems within communities. Mohler is one of just two in the region with such a certification.

San Juan County announces the selection of John Mohler as the next Fire Chief of the San Juan County Fire Department.
“It has been my lifelong mission to serve the community,” said Chief Mohler, “I am excited to be serving alongside some of the most dedicated volunteers and staff in the state.”
Chief Mohler currently serves as the Deputy Fire Chief for the San Juan County Fire Department, and Fire Chief for the Bloomfield Fire Department. He has served in various capacities in the fire service since starting as a volunteer firefighter in 1995. Chief Mohler is a third-generation firefighter.
“Succession planning is key,” said San Juan County Manager Mike Stark, “Having qualified leaders in place to continue the excellent services and programs county-wide means no interruption. After Fire Chief Craig Daugherty’s retirement, we realized that the one to continue in his footsteps was already working at the San Juan County Fire Department.”

“It’s humbling to be part of an organization with such a long history of dedicated service,” said Chief Mohler, “My goal is to build on that heritage and continue to provide excellent services to the county.”
Chief Mohler will take over as San Juan County Fire Department Fire Chief on December 28, 2019, following the retirement of Fire Chief Craig Daugherty.
