New Mexico was one of the five original member states, along with Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. Today, the member states number fourteen, including West Virginia, Mississippi and Alabama to the East and Colorado, Kansas, North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana and Alaska to the West.

New Mexico Senate Republican Caucus Chair Steve Neville (R-Farmington-2) was elected National Chairman of The Energy Council at its annual meeting in Anchorage, Alaska last week. He is leading the legislative and energy organization at a time when New Mexico and the United States are energy production leaders. The Energy Council includes forums on energy sources such as renewables like solar, wind and hydro-electric as well as traditional sources such as oil, gas and coal.
“As New Mexico and the United States, like never before, are at the forefront of energy production, this is an exciting time to be leading this highly respected, international legislative and energy organization. I believe my leadership will be beneficial to my constituents and to the energy industry in Farmington and throughout our state,” Senator Neville said. “And the knowledge I have gleaned by representing our energy rich state over the years will also be a tremendous asset to The Energy Council as New Mexico, along with the United States, are now known as global leaders in energy production. That is critically important and it is something we are all very proud of.”

In recognition of the continental nature of energy markets, the Council has welcomed the Canadian Provinces of Alberta, and Saskatchewan, as well. The Energy Council is said to be a proven resource for developing energy policy leadership.
“The forums and meetings give The Energy Council members a face to face opportunity to talk directly with other lawmakers about energy issues that are so vital to our states and to our nation. Together, we share with one another what we learn about energy policies and energy markets, technology as well as related environmental concerns. Revenue from taxes on the highly productive industry is always a welcomed topic of discussion,” Senator Neville said.
Senator Neville has served as Vice-Chairman for the past year.
