One Killed, 3 Hurt in US 550 Crash

The driver Mr. Burgess Cayaditto (33) of Cuba, NM and two of the passengers were were transported to San Juan Regional Hospital with injuries.  Mr. Charles Martinez (44) of Nageezi, NM sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

From NM State Police: On January 26, 2018 around 4:42 p.m. the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on US 550 near milepost 128, approximately 22 miles south of Bloomfield, NM. 

 

The initial investigation indicated a 1987 Chevrolet truck was traveling south on US 550 when for unknown reasons crossed into the northbound lanes of travel and lost control, overturning on the shoulder. 

 

The single cab vehicle was occupied by four male individuals, in which seat belts were not utilized.  Indicators at the scene show that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

This crash remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.

    The rescue effort also received substantial financial support, from various donors. This outside support significantly reduced the financial impact on local resources and ensured the operation did not place a major burden on San Juan County taxpayers.

  • Resident Dies after House Fire N. of Aztec

    Crews arrived to find a structure on fire and the occupant inside.  Despite a quick response from fire crews and efforts by San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies, one occupant was removed from the structure by firefighters and transported to the hospital by San Juan Regional Medical Center EMS. The occupant was pronounced dead at the hospital.
