Redwine Booked into LaPLata Co. Jail

A grand jury indicted Mark Redwine on July 20 and a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of second degree murder and child abuse resulting in the death of his son, who was visiting Redwine over the Thanksgiving holiday in 2012 when he disappeared. Dylan Redwine’s remains were found in a remote area northwest of Mark Redwine’s home in May 2013.

Mark Redwine was booked into the La Plata County Jail at 4:56 p.m. Monday following extradition from Whatcom County, Washington. La Plata County Sheriff’s Office personnel took custody of Redwine on Monday morning, and returned to Durango via chartered aircraft. Redwine was arrested in Bellingham, Wash. On July 22 in connection with the November 2012 murder of 13-year-old Dylan Redwine.

A grand jury indicted Redwine on July 20 and a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of second degree murder and child abuse resulting in the death of his son, who was visiting Redwine over the Thanksgiving holiday in 2012 when he disappeared. Dylan Redwine’s remains were found in a remote area northwest of Mark Redwine’s home in May 2013.

Redwine works as a long-haul trucker and the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with the U.S. Marshals, Washington State Police and Bellingham Police to locate and arrest Redwine following the indictment and warrant. He has been held in Whatcom County Jail pending extradition since his July arrest.

Generally, defendants are advised the next business day after booking. Judge Jeffrey Wilson will advise Redwine of the charges he is facing at the La Plata County Courthouse, 1060 E. 2^nd Ave. in Durango. Details on the advisement will be released as soon as possible. The Sixth Judicial District Attorney’s Office will prosecute Redwine’s case.

Resident Dies after House Fire N. of Aztec

Crews arrived to find a structure on fire and the occupant inside. Despite a quick response from fire crews and efforts by San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies, one occupant was removed from the structure by firefighters and transported to the hospital by San Juan Regional Medical Center EMS. The occupant was pronounced dead at the hospital.
