School Threat nets 2 Arrests

     In partnership with Bloomfield Police Department, both suspects were arrested and charged with interference with the educational process, a petty misdemeanor. The 19-year-old suspect had two active warrants at the time of his arrest; failure to appear on a Felony distribution charge and failure to appear for traffic violations. Two cell phones, a laptop, phone records and social media accounts from both suspects are currently being seized and investigated. 

From the San Juan County Sherrif's Office:

   Local law enforcement received notice of a threatening post made on social media late last night. The suspect that posted the threatening message was a 17-year-old male, that had been previously expelled from Charlie Y. Brown Alternative School in Bloomfield, NM. In the comment section of the original post, a 19-year-old male, made a statement in support of the threat. The 19-year-old suspect was previously removed from the same school for truancy and at one point was trespassed from school property. This morning, Charlie Y. Brown Alternative School was evacuated and cleared due to fear generated by the social media post and the school’s history with both suspects.

     Chief Foster, with Bloomfield Police Department wants to stress that the safety and security of students is a top priority and that his department will continue to partner with the schools for proactive safety measures. Chief Foster wants to thank all the law enforcement officers that worked together today. Undersheriff Ferrari is also thankful for the great law enforcement partnership’s that we have throughout the county; making our investigations stronger than ever. Undersheriff Ferrari stated, “Since the school shooting in Aztec, we have unfortunately seen other communities impacted by horrific school violence. We will continue to investigate all threats to the end, charging anyone associated with those threats to the fullest extent of the law. The FBI will be assisting local law enforcement in this investigation and we will update the public as more information becomes available.” 

     The attached photos were posted on one of the adult suspects social media account’s and located by Detectives with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with other law enforcement agencies take these threats very seriously and will exhaust every resource imaginable to try and prevent these attacks before they happen.

  • Resident Dies after House Fire N. of Aztec

    Crews arrived to find a structure on fire and the occupant inside.  Despite a quick response from fire crews and efforts by San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies, one occupant was removed from the structure by firefighters and transported to the hospital by San Juan Regional Medical Center EMS. The occupant was pronounced dead at the hospital.
