Last year, a similar incident occurred and law enforcement contacted a citizen that was shooting at prairie dogs near our building. It is suspected that this could be a similar situation and we want to remind the community that it is illegal to discharge a firearm in the city limits of Aztec, as well as within 150 yards of a dwelling or building.
From the San Juan Co. Sheriff's Office:
At approximately 10:20am this morning, two detectives with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office were in the west parking lot when they heard gun fire and a bullet impact the side of the building. All the government buildings in the area went into lockdown immediately. A team of Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives searched the field west of the building and the lockdown was lifted after the area was cleared.
