Update: Suspect in Brookside Park Shooting Arrested

A warrant was issued Friday for 18-year-old D’Jali Smith of Farmington on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault. Smith was arrested on Sunday in Colorado by Cortez police. Details about the case are not being released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.

A suspect in the shooting that occurred October 26 at Brookside Park was arrested over the weekend. A warrant was issued Friday for 18-year-old D’Jali Smith of Farmington on charges of two counts aggravated battery great bodily harm and two counts aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Smith was arrested on Sunday in Colorado by Cortez police. Details about the case are not being released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing. The shooting that occurred Friday night at Brookside Park remains under investigation. While we are not able to release additional details at this time, we do not believe this was a random incident. However, there will be an increased police presence at the football game on November 2 at Hutchison Stadium.

Farmington police are investigating a shooting that took place today around 8:23 p.m. near Brookside Park. Two teenage boys were injured during the incident and transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A third teenage boy with minor injuries was released at the scene. Police are searching for suspects. Anyone with information should call dispatch at 334-6622. Citizens are asked to avoid the areas of Dustin from Boyd to 20th and Brookside Drive until further notice. We will provide additional details as they become available.
